Alfreton Park School

The construction included a steel frame, brickwork plinths and zinc/terracotta façade. The new single storey school features 12 state-of-the-art classrooms and four group learning rooms as well as an outdoor learning classroom, where pupils can gain experience in horticulture and woodworking.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

For decades, Alfreton Park School had managed with a building and grounds totally unsuited to the needs of their pupils, over split levels and cramped. Pupils at the school are aged 2 to 19 years with a diverse range of highly complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. They have a range of learning difficulties from severe to profound, and 80% are wheelchair users. Additionally, around half of all pupils are on the autistic spectrum and the school supports pupils with additional medical needs.

After years of campaigning, planning for the new SEN school began in 2017. In 2019 Henry Brothers were awarded the contract for converting the designs into reality. The first phase of construction was completed mid-2022 with the students moving in and making it their forever home not long after.

The second phase of the project, which involved the demolition of the existing redundant school buildings, remediation and return of the former school site to open parkland and the provision of a new adventure playground was completed in late summer 2023.
