Refurbishment Works
Major refurbishment of two occupied 1960’s science and engineering buildings to provide high-spec specialist laboratories,
office accommodation, teaching and research facilities
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Delivered over several Phases and whilst the buildings remained live and operational, the projects comprised the major refurbishment (17,000m² in total) and complex M&E overhaul of two occupied, four-storey 1960’s science and engineering buildings to provide high-spec specialist laboratories, office accommodation, teaching and research facilities, together with communal breakout spaces.
The ‘W’ Building (officially known as the Sir David Davies building) includes new physics, chemistry, tribology and acoustic labs as well as architectural space, lecture theatres, classrooms and breakout areas. At the adjoining ‘S’ Building, we provided Chemical Engineering labs and facilities for the Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre which provides analytical and consultancy services.
Key elements of the works included the remodelling and refurbishment of the internal layouts / spaces; provision of extensive office accommodation over four Floors; lifecycle replacement of building systems and M&E Infrastructure; new laboratories, lecture theatre, event spaces, architectural studio, study areas, kitchens, refreshments venues, and the refurbishment of science, research, tribology, and acoustics laboratories.
Works also included newly constructed building entrances and external carparking and hard / soft landscaping
