Loughborough University, SportPark Pavilion 4

‘Passivhaus Classic’ 4-storey extension offering flagship accommodation for the highest concentration of national sports governance bodies and organisations in the UK

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Delivered in the Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park, SportPark Pavilion 4 is the first Passivhaus development on the university campus – helping Loughborough University to decarbonise its estate to meet the Government’s zero carbon target by 2050.

Appointed as Principal Contractor and Designer, Henry Brothers completed this 2,180m2 4-storey major expansion to provide an additional fourth pavilion, together with the provision of a link building to adjoin the extension to the existing Pavilions 1-3.

Open plan office accommodation was constructed to a shell and core specification, with meeting rooms, lobby areas, and kitchenettes provided on all floors. Works also included the provision of a lift and all building services, with external works including hard and soft landscaping, carparking, and cycle storage.

In keeping with SportPark’s award-winning architecture and supporting the University’s sustainability aspirations, we designed and constructed the facility to achieve Passivhaus certification, benchmarking the Net Zero standard for future on-campus buildings.

As the fourth sustainably-driven project that Henry Brothers has delivered for the University, the adoption of innovation and best-practice has led to Pavilion 4 being one of only a handful of ‘Passivhaus Classic’-certified office buildings in the UK.
