Henry Brothers have been appointed as the Main Contractor to deliver the refurbishment and extension to the McClay Library and David Bates building in Queens University. The project value is £6.6 million and will run until August 2019. The works will include a full refurbishment of the first and second floors of the David Bates building; the enclosing of a central courtyard between the two buildings and alterations to the ground floor of the David Bates building to provide additional reader and study space. Currently the two buildings are not connected and the project will provide for new access routes to link the two buildings. A new extension to the front of the David Bates building to provide additional accommodation for specialist historic book storage and alterations and refurbishments to various areas throughout the library will be delivered in the latter stage of the programme.
